Secure Deletion Is Available

February 2nd, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

FCleaner 1.1.4.129 has been released. Secure Deletion feature has been available from this version. You can download FCleaner here.

Now there are five deletion modes you can choose in ‘Options->General Options->Secure Deletion’:
  1. Normal file deletion (Faster)
  2. Pseudorandom Data -1 pass (Slower)
  3. DoD 5220.22-M (8-306. / E) – 3 pass (Slower)
  4. DoD 5220.22-M (8-36. / E, C and E) – 7 pass (Slower)
  5. Gutmann – 35 pass (Very slow)

FCleaner Secure Deletion

‘Normal file deletion’ is the deletion mode as default. The files deleted in this mode may be recovered by some file recover softwares.

Mode 2 to 5 will do a true secure deletion, the files deleted in these modes will not be recovered. But the deletion speed will be slower than the normal way.

So we suggest you use ‘Normal file deletion’ mode, because it is the fastest way. And use other secure deletion modes only when you really want to ‘SECURE’ delete files.

    @Gandi
You need run ‘services.msc’ in the ‘Run Menu’. Here you can start/stop/restart the services.

    Hi Mike!
Thanks for your help – what I see “left over” needs no cleaning or is OK if I understand you correctly.
May I ask 1 unrelated questiion since you easily explain to a non-computer illterate?
I do not show upon start up of the computer Program Files LISTED or an oprion to click on (like My Documents, My Pictures etc). I have an address say… C:\Program Files________. How do I get to that address? Where do I put that information/address….in the top line for addresses at the top of the computer? I don’t understand – I can only receive them at startup and can’t delete from there.
Thanks for any help you can provide! Sincerely!
    Kashzka

    Hi kashzka,
I don’t understand your meanings very well. Do you mean you have a folder like ‘C:\Program Files________’, and you cannot delete/access it? If it is, I think you need do a disk check for logic errors. How to? Right click the driver you want to check, and select ‘Properties’. In ‘Tools’ tab, you can find a option named ‘Error-checking’, run it to check your disk errors. And then try to operate on that folder.
